Trials for women cricketers

Bermuda Cricket Board (BCB) will be holding trials for the Island's first Under 12 and Under 16 women's national teams this Sunday at the Berkeley Institute Field in Pembroke.

National cricket coach Gus Logie and BCB development director Arnold Manders have designed the trials aimed at unearthing hidden talent at the grassroots level.

Both teams will train regularly under qualified cricket coaches and will also compete in the BCB youth leagues.

BCB president Reggie Pearman said. "It is our goal to develop women's cricket on the island through participation and competition and we are starting with the youth."

Last year women's national team members Maryellen Jackson, Stacy Babb and Terry-Lynn Paynter all successfully completed the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Level One Coaching Course and have now been given the task of assisting the girls during this weekend's trials.

The Under 12 trials will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 noon with the Under 16 trials to begin at 1 p.m. cricket. For details call the BCB at 292-8958.
