Tucker not showing the right example

Dear Sir,

Please allow me a little space as I read in today's Royal Gazette concerning the ban on Southampton Rangers player/coach Janeiro Tucker.

It is sad to say that Mr. Tucker is not showing an example to the youth that look up to him as a top cricketer.

This is his second ban for the season and as a coach you should be setting an example for your players and the ones that look up to you.

As a cricket fan who follows all Bermuda cricket, home and abroad, I feel that the pressure of being player/coach has taken its toll on Mr. Tucker. Trying to coach the team and concentrate on his own game did not suit him at all. I had a few words with a couple of Rangers people at the end of the season and they said Janeiro was not as focused as he should be and the programme was not the same as it was when Mr.Clevie Wade had the programme.

Clevie brought that professionalism to the team and motivated the players and brought the best out of them, but that was not there this season. For a team that won back-to-back league titles and then this season finished fourth goes to show something had to be wrong.

But I hope Mr.Tucker will learn from this and try to put all that behind him and do better next season.

Yours in Sport,

W.L. Burt
