Tucker row could end up in court
An ongoing row between Bermuda Cricket Board (BCB) and Southampton Rangers may now go to arbitration or possibly spill over into the courts, The Royal Gazette can reveal.
Local cricket's governing body and Rangers are at odds over the amount of matches suspended all-rounder Janeiro Tucker has missed since being slapped with a six-game suspension from all BCB sanctioned matches.
The Rangers stalwart was banned last November, dropped from the national squad, and ruled out of Bermuda's four-game tour of the Caribbean earlier this year.
As part of the punishment the BCB clearly indicated Tucker was prohibited from taking part in "all matches", leading Rangers top brass to believe their player/coach had already served two thirds of the imposed ban prior to the start of the 2008 season.
The BCB, however, claim Tucker has only missed two games arguing that two of the three practice matches Bermuda played in against a Jamaican Development Select, prior to their Stanford 20/20 clash with Guyana, were not Board sanctioned matches.
And with no end to the impasse in sight, and both parties refusing to budge, it is now understood the BCB are seeking to have the matter resolved via the Ministry of Sports' Alternate Dispute Resolution (ADR) arbitration panel while Rangers have threatened to take their case before the courts.
Tucker was banned twice last year for unsporting behaviour.
Meanwhile, Bermuda Under 19s all -rounder Chris Douglas has yet to be dealt with by the BCB's disciplinary committee for breaching their code of conduct while representing the Island last February at the World Cup in Malaysia.
"We are still waiting to get the reports back. We have some of them, but not all," said BCB disciplinary chairman Gary Fray.
"But we have a meeting next week and I think all of the reports should be in by then."
