Young Nick Jones' dream start to 2008 with two wins
It has been a satisfying year so far for junior golfing sensation Nick Jones.
Jones' game has peaked recently, with the Grandview Prep student savouring back-to-back wins in Florida and now looking to extend his remarkable win streak.
"I've gotten off to a good start this year by winning my last two tournaments (Junior Players Tour and International Junior Golf Tour) and I hope to continue playing good golf," he said.
Jones has enjoyed moderate success in the past but rates his recent victory on the IJGT Tour and earning exemption to an American Junior Golf Tour (AJGT) event as his crowning moments.
"That is the biggest tournament I've ever won and words cannot describe how I felt. It took a couple of hours for it to really set in," he said.
"I would definitely say that winning on this prestigious golf tour is the pinnacle of my career; playing against and beating all of those highly-ranked players is a wonderful accomplishment."
He added: "It is fun and challenging to play all the top golf courses in Florida and it is also fun meeting all the new faces and new competition. It is not like in Bermuda where you play with the same people every weekend. . . . you get to meet someone new every tournament."
Jones is a big fan of world number one Tiger Woods but an even bigger fan of proud dad Eardley Jones who occasionally caddies for his son.
"The golfer who has had the most influence on my career would have to be my father, he has taught me this beautiful game and has always had the most confidence in me out of anyone," Jones said. "He has taught me everything he knows and now I apply that to my game to help me succeed.
"Tiger Woods has done what I have dreamt about and I hope I can be half the golfer he is."
Jones admits the lay-outs in Florida can be difficult at times but "cherishes" the challenge of trying to tame the green monsters.
"The rough is thicker, fairways tighter and the courses are longer. But I cherish every single golf course and learn from them each and every time I play," he said.
"But you overcome these obstacles by practising harder and playing better, which I'm doing right now and hopefully I can keep it up."
