Another record for Smith

Seventy-six year-old Bermudian Chris Smith, who spends much of his time in Canada, has set a new Canadian national record at the FINA World Masters Swimming Championships in Perth, Australia.

While feeling the affects of the 200 metres the night before, Smith set a new 75-79 age group mark in the 400 metres of 6:45.02 as he placed fifth.

It was Smith's fourth Canadian record in five pool events.

Meanwhile, Smith finished fourth in the three kilometre Open Water Swim which was held on Anzac Day along the city's waterfront on the Swan river with thousands of spectators watching.

Some 800 competitors took part in the event, divided into waves of up to 60 according to age group.

Smith finished in one hour, one minute and six seconds, slower than his usual time of 55 to 59 minutes. The veteran swimmer also competed in five individual events, taking two silver medals earlier in the week.
