Police Ladies 3

In her final game of rugby in Bermuda Michelle Berendt left no doubt in anyone's mind how difficult she will be to replace. A five-try haul for the Mariners' player was enough - and more - to secure her team their first league win of the season against Police.

It was an enthralling eight-try match. Police appeared to have mastered the basics of tag rugby and are very workmanlike in their approach making valuable ground on every series of possession.

Meanwhile Mariners have seen a vast improvement in the general play and ball handling skills. Police opened up the scoring with a fabulous try from Julia Mansfield who continues to surprise opposing wingers with her turn of pace.

Mariners relied heavily on perennial star player Berendt to respond and respond she did with an outstanding individual performance culminating in a five-try haul.

The two teams traded tries deep into the game with Mansfield and new comer Melinda O'Reilly scoring for Police. But the day belonged to Berendt who shone brightly - her pace and understanding of the game proved time and again too much for the Police and she finished her Bermuda rugby career on a definite high.

Bermuda Ladies rugby and in particular Mariners will have some mighty big boot to fill to replace the void her departure creates.

Renegades Ladies 11

Teachers Ladies 1

A strong Renegades team ravished a seriously depleted Teachers squad 11-1. The Reds had a litany of front liners absent though travel injury and the seasonal flu bug.

Such was their plight that stalwart Sarah Mchugh-Wheddon soldiered on despite a raging temperature. Alas, the dedication was not enough to hold the fort and the flood gates burst open in an 11-try demolition.

Leading the way was Amy Harvey with four tries, Melissa Field, Sue Rebello Laura Haynes each added two tries a piece and Ruth BooLeston finished off the rampant Renegades onslaught with a try of her own.

The lone Teacher's try in response was from Melissa Daponte who fought tirelessly to the end.
