Big finish lifts West to third in Tour event

A blazing finish by Bermuda golfer Eric West, which saw him eagle the par-five 16th hole and birdie the final hole, lifted him to third place in a Moonlight golf.com Tour event in Orlando, Florida earlier this week.

West returned a three-under-par 69 to finish the one-day tournament, held at the Sweetwater Country Club, two strokes behind eventual winner Paul Curry of USA.

The 24-year-old Island pro also eagled the par-four 12th in a rollercoaster round which saw him make birdies at four and nine and bogeys at four other holes.

"I started off two-over after three (holes) and then went on to be three-under the rest of the way," West told The Royal Gazette. "The course was really narrow and the par threes were very long."

Last week West, who qualified for the Tour de las Americas earlier this month, won his first title as a pro on the Moonlight golf.com Tour competing in a field that included PGA Tour player Kelley Sellers.

He also shot 69 last week at the Windermere Country Club and hasn't recorded a round over par in nearly a month.

"I haven't shot over par since I shot 74 in the opening round of the Tour de las Americas qualifier," West added. "My game has really come together lately and I'm becoming more of a complete player."
