Broadley lined up for top BFA post
The hiring of former Crystal Palace academy coach Derek Broadley as technical director has been approved by Bermuda Football Association's technical committee, a BFA source has confirmed.
It is understood Broadley's appointment was given the green light by the committee over two weeks ago and some members are now concerned about the announcement's delay.
The BFA source told The Royal Gazette: "The technical committee has already approved the appointment of Derek Broadley as technical director. It should have been completed by now."
Earlier this month Mark Trott, who was spotted introducing Broadley to coach Keith Tucker at a recent national team training session, was relieved of his duties as technical committee chairman.
The reshuffle has seen president Larry Mussenden take charge of the association's technical committee until a suitable successor is found.
In a BFA statement released last week Mussenden said there were times when the president, for varying reasons, may wish to shuffle his cabinet "in the best interest of football".
Trott, who remains on the executive committee, would have been instrumental in the selection process of finding a new technical director, which has proven to be a slow and painstaking search.
Broadley was first linked with the vacancy last month after sources close to him confirmed he had officially applied for the job.
The head coach of US franchise Rage Soccer Club has strong ties on the Island through Bermuda Football Foundation (BFF) founders Richard and Robert Calderon, who along with Clyde Best own a 30 percent stake in the team.
Richard Calderon, a former BFA technical committee executive, said last month that he believed Broadley had the right pedigree for the role.
"Having worked with Derek on coaching clinics in Bermuda I know he's an excellent coach and instructor," he said. "He has a very good coaching background and I believe he would be a great candidate."
Based in Pennsylvania, Rage Soccer Club have a team in the USL's PDL Championship, which caters to college players. The league is effectively one tier below the USL-D2, which includes the Bermuda Hogges.
The BFA yesterday declined to comment on the matter.
