Clubs fined $500 over jersey mix-up — Boulevard to appeal

Boulevard Community Club (BCC) are now set to appeal against a Bermuda Football Association (BFA) imposed fine for failing to adhere to the association’s standing orders which govern competition rules and regulations.

Blazers were slapped with a $500 fine for showing up at Somerset Cricket Club for a November 4 Premier Division league match against Somerset Trojans without their officially registered white away team jerseys.

The current Premier Division leaders turned up wearing red jerseys which clashed with Trojan’s official red and black home strip.

All attempts to rectify the situation failed, leaving senior referee Lyndon Raynor no other option but to call the game off.

When contacted yesterday Boulevard president Keith Flemming, stated: “We are going to appeal.”

Trojans, meanwhile, also did not go unpunished.

The West Enders were also slapped with a $500 fine for refusing to change into an alternative team strip that would allowed the game to go on as planned.

According to the BFA constitution: “Where there is a conflict in the colours worn by any two teams and for any match, the home team shall be required to change.

“However, should the visiting team not be wearing its registered colours, thus causing the home team to change, the visiting team shall be fined, and/or otherwise dealt with by the association.”

When contacted, Somerset Cricket Club chairman of football Josef Gooden stated: “We have a meeting scheduled for this week in which we will discuss the BFA’s correspondence. We will then re-evaluate the rules

and once we’ve made a decision the president or secretary will issue a statement based on what actions we intend to take.”

Meanwhile, Premier Division action takes centre stage tonight at the Den where Devonshire Cougars host cross town rivals Dandy Town in a make up match.

Both clubs are coming off convincing wins last weekend over PHC Zebras and Paget respectively.

Cougars thrashed Hornets 5-0 during the two club’s previous meeting last month in the Martonmere Cup semi final at Somerset Cricket Club.
