Credit to Bermuda for getting the job done

Everyone knows I've been critical of Bermuda's national team in recent months but they've forced me to eat some humble pie . . . and to be honest I'm enjoying every mouthful of it!

Hopefully my comments have always been constructive and I know from my own personal experiences in football that often criticism is the best motivatation.

Sometimes it's just what you need to inspire you to prove your doubters wrong. Keith Tucker, Kenny Thompson and the rest of the squad have answered their critics in the best way by beating Cayman Islands.

They now deserve all the praise that comes their way.

I gather it wasn't the perfect performance but at this stage that's almost irrelevant. It's all about getting the job done and progressing to the next stage. If you can win when playing well then that's a bonus.

Everyone expected us to win against Cayman but you can only beat what's put in front of you and it seems as though Kenny has helped install some organisation into the team.

Since he rejoined the camp they've beaten MLS outfit Colorado Rapids and now Cayman and it's important to build on that momentum because winning breeds confidence.

Hopefully the Bermuda Hogges will benefit from the current 'feel-good factor' as most of our squad are also part of the national set-up.

The Hogges have been in training for a few weeks now and we're feeling confident about the coming season.

We've got a few new players onboard who we believe will be excellent additions to the team and help our development. The squad will be meeting for training later today and as soon as all the official papers are signed with the USL we will be releasing the 2008 roster.

Obviously four of our matches in June will now clash with the national team's doubleheader with Trinidad and Tobago following the Cayman result.

Myself, Kyle Lightbourne and Paul Scope will be holding dialogue with Bermuda Football Association (BFA) to discuss the best action to take.

We will be discussing the best way to overcome the hurdles ahead of us and try to find the best path forward. Unfortunately, I think it will be pretty difficult to reschedule the fixtures with the USL at this late stage.

The meeting will also give me a chance to meet with the new technical director Derek Broadley, who comes with a good pedigree and I'm sure will help take Bermudian football to the next level.

As for the qualifier against Trinidad, it will certainly be an extremely difficult match for us.

Pretty much their whole squad are professionals with many of them earning a living in the English leagues and they have a number of high profile names such as Sunderland's Kenwyn Jones and Carlos Edwards.

They will have benefitted from a lot of funding and excellent coaching and let's not forget they played in the last World Cup finals.

It will certainly be very interesting to see how we get on against a top Caribbean region.
