Ex-Crystal Palace man is here
Former Crystal Palace academy director Derek Broadley has been spotted at a national team training session - but the Bermuda Football Association (BFA) has refused to comment on whether he will be the new technical director.
Broadley attended yesterday's morning workout at the NSC's North Field where he was introduced to national team coach Keith Tucker by technical committee chairman Mark Trott.
The highly regarded coach was linked with the vacant position earlier this month after sources close to him confirmed he had officially applied to become technical director.
When contacted yesterday the BFA were unable to confirm or deny whether Englishman Broadley was the overseas candidate president Larry Mussenden referred to as "the chosen man" at a recent press conference.
Broadley, the head coach of US franchise Rage Soccer Club, has strong ties on the Island through Bermuda Football Foundation founders Richard and Robert Calderon, who along with Clyde Best own a 30 percent stake in the team.
It is understood Broadley will be conducting a clinic for coaches in Bermuda this week, but his presence at training will increase speculation that he could be the new TD.
Richard Calderon, a former BFA technical committee executive, told TheRoyal Gazette earlier this month that he believed Broadley had the right pedigree for the post.
"Having worked with Derek on coaching clinics in Bermuda I know he's an excellent coach and instructor," he said. "He has a very good coaching background and I believe he would be a great candidate."
Based in Pennsylvania, Rage Soccer Club has a team in the USL's PDL Championship, which caters for college players. The league is effectively one tier below the USL-D2, which includes the Bermuda Hogges.
The BFA are expected to make an announcement on the appointment of a technical director over the coming weeks.
