Fletcher grabs second gold
Bermuda's Julian Fletcher continued his domination of breaststroke events at the Carifta Swimming Championships in Aruba when he grabbed his second gold medal on the final day of the meet on Sunday.
In the senior boys' age group (15-17), he led from start to finish in the 100 metres final and powered home in convincing fashion to record a time of 1:09.16.
A day earlier Fletcher had snatched gold in the 50 metres final.
Rebecca Sharpe also found herself on the podium for a third time when she secured her second silver medal of the meet in the senior girls' (15-17) 200 metres backstroke.
Again she renewed her rivalry with McKayla Lightbourne of the Bahamas as she lowered her previous best time and her age group record by two seconds.
Sharpe had also taken silver in the 100 metres backstroke and was a part of Bermuda's 4x100 metres relay team that won the bronze.
For Bermuda, the Caribbean meet has been the most successful ever with a haul of eight medals.
The Island team finished ninth out of 14 countries with 288 swimmers competing.
"The success of the Bermuda swimmers at this meet bodes well for the upcoming meets this summer." said national coach Richard Goodwin.
