Bermuda's three-match tour of Jamaica, the homeland of West Indies legends Michael Holding and Courtney Walsh, ended in defeat yesterday as the tourists slumped to a six-wicket loss against a Jamaican Development Select.

Any hopes Bermuda might've had of arriving in Antigua for the Stanford 20/20 Tournament later today with a win under their belt were dashed, though assistant national coach Herbie Bascome might've found consolation in his team's improved batting display yesterday.

Led by an unbeaten half-century from man-of-the-match Lionel Cann, and equally solid contributions from English County star David Hemp and James Celestine, Bermuda put a more respectable total on the board for the loss of only two wickets in their allotted overs.

The aggressive Cann, perhaps tailor made for the shorter version of the game, slammed 51, Hemp 35 and Celestine 20 as Bermuda rebounded from the ignominy of being skittled out for a paltry 68 the day before against the same opposition.

In reply, the Jamaicans achieved their winning objective with four-wickets in hand and eight balls to spare.

Recalled seamer Ryan Steede led Bermuda's attack with figures of two for 33 while spinners Dwayne Leverock and Ray Butterfield claimed one each respectively.

Bermuda will now take on defending Stanford 20/20 champions Guyana on Sunday at the Stanford 20/20 Cricket Ground.

Earlier this week Bermuda's Stanford 20/20 bid received a welcomed boost with confirmation Guayna and West Indies star batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul has been ruled out through a sinus problem. Right-arm batsman Royston Crandon has been named as the former West Indies captain's replacement.

Somerset all rounder Jordan DeSilva continued to shine with the ball in India yesterday, claiming four wickets in as losing cause as Bermuda's Under 19 national squad went down by 56 runs against India's Under 19 Academy.

Seamer DeSilva, who claimed five for 43 in the tourists' opening tour match on the sub-continent last weekend, picked up where he left off yesterday by bagging four for 28 to help restrict the Indians below the double-century mark.

Offering good support was Bermuda skipper Rodney Trott who claimed two for three off a mere 3.3 overs with his off-break spin.

But having been set a target of 197 to win, Bermuda's batsmen failed to come to grips with the task at hand, as well as a stomach virus, after the hosts had made early inroads with the key dismissal of opener Terryn Fray for a duck.

Tailender Machai Campbell topped Bermuda's batting with a well-played 35, followed by all rounders Greg Maybury (30) and Malachi Jones (22) who did their best lower down the order to repair the early damage.

Opener Chris Douglas (19) was the only other Bermudian batsmen in double figures while the Indians gave up 20 runs in extras.
