Harris is St. Kitts' danger man

St. Kitts and Nevis plan to spoil Keith Tucker's first game in charge of the national team by unleashing their dangerman Atiba Harris against Bermuda.

Major League Soccer (MLS) star Harris is undoubtedly St. Kitts' star attraction with his coach Leonard Taylor describing the 6ft 3in marksman as a complete striker.

Harris, who signed for Chivas USA from Real Salt Lake last month, has scored seven goals in 22 appearances for his homeland and had a stint in the Spanish Segunda Division with Cadiz.

"Atiba has all the attributes you want from a striker," said Taylor. "He's good in the air, quick and skilful and we believe he can cause Bermuda plenty of problems."

The 22-year-old scored four goals in 43 appearances during his time at Real Salt Lake and became the first St. Kitts player to grace the MLS.

Although Taylor will not have the luxury of selecting from a full strength squad, he is quietly confident they will still prove a match for Tucker's men.

"Our players are fighting for a place in our World Cup qualifying squad and they're putting everything out," said Taylor. "We're looking for solid performances both individually and collectively.

"I wouldn't say we've brought a full-strength squad because these friendly matches are not on designated Fifa dates, so some of our professionals are still involved with their clubs.

"But that provides an opportunity for some of our second string to stake a claim and plenty of first-choice players have still made the trip.

"People may look at Fifa's rankings and see Bermuda above us, but I think we're pretty equal. We've not played much senior football recently because we've been focusing on our Under 17s, 19s, 20s and 23s. That's why our ranking is not as high as it should be."

St. Kitts' first-round opponents in the 2010 World Cup qualifiers are Belize, one of the weakest teams in the world.
