Local player wins top UK football final
Local footballer Charlie Watson was a member of the 2008 Charterhouse team that won the recent England Independent Schools (ISFA) Cup final.
The rearranged clash took place last week at Charterhouse, who won the toss to determine home advantage, after the original fixture at Woking was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.
Charterhouse triumphed 8-7 on penalties after the game ended goalless. Euro 2008 official Howard Webb refereed it.
Watson, 17, was born in Bermuda and was a member of the Bermuda Under-13 national team before moving to England.
He spent a few years with Terry Wateridge at his Bournemouth football academy and last summer trained with the Under-23s in Bermuda.
He has captained several teams in Bermuda and England.
The Charterhouse team toured Bermuda last October, winning matches against the Bermuda Under-16 national team, Robin Hood and BAA.
The tour set up a historic season as in addition to winning the ISFA Cup they also won the Southern (England) Independent Schools League Cup.
