Maycock dominant in squash nationals
Squash prospect Robert Maycock reinforced his growing reputation by claiming victory in the under-19 final of the HWP National Junior Squash Championships.
The 17-year-old, who starred for the Island in the recent World Men's Team Championships in India, ruthlessly took Kristian Muldoon apart in the tournament's curtain call.
He surged to a two-game lead against Muldoon without dropping a single point, before taking the third game 9-3 to wrap up the title at Bermuda Squash Racquets Association's headquarters in Devonshire.
However, the match of the tournament honours went to brothers Laird and Beckett Simmons who battled it out in an engrossing under-13 final, which saw the former emerge victorious.
Beckett appeared to be in command when he took a 2-1 lead, but Laird fought back to take the 4th game 10-9 and then nudged ahead by winning the deciding game 9-3.
Several players featured in more than one final with national squad member Emma Keane winning the girls under-13 final 3-0 against Alex Marshall, before losing the girls under-17 final against Juliette McComb. McComb also reached the girls under-19 final where she lost 3-0 to Laura Robinson.
Kion Knights won the boys under-11 final with an impressive 3-0 triumph over Dylan Muldoon. Noah Browne took the boys under-15 title, defeating Chris Stout who went on to give Micah Franklin a tough match in the boys under-17 semi-final.
But Franklin met his match against a determined Kristian Muldoon who won in straight games to take the title.
