Parsons’ double strike denies impressive Colts
Dandy Town 2
Devonshire Colts 2
Devonshire Colts head coach Ray Jones had mixed feelings after seeing his side held to a 2-2 draw at Dandy Town yesterday.
The Hornets took the lead in the first half through Michael Parsons, but Colts netted twice, courtesy of first Philip Anderson and then Quincy Aberdeen after the break, before Parsons snatched his second and a late equaliser.
Jones said: "I thought we were a bit unfortunate to come out with just one point.
"Looking at the quality in terms of possession as far as moving the ball around on the floor we had the edge.
"In the second half we came out and made some adjustments and we were seeing if we could get any more balls dropped deeper into their area and take more shots. But at the end lack of concentration at a set play cost us.
"At the end of the day we are trying to build something here and it is another point on the road and I am happy with the players and their application in difficult conditions."
But his opposite number Devarr Boyles, was less than impressed with his team's performance.
He said: "I think in the end we were fortunate to get a point. The performance by the players was not the best by a far shot and it was one of those days when we didn't bring the right amount of effort.
"I just asked the team if they felt they matched the opposition's effort and not many of them said they did.
"Congratulations to Devonshire Colts because they came and provided energy and they could have walked away with all three points."
Parsons opened the scoring when Seion Darrell's corner was only half-cleared and he lashed the ball into the back of the net on the stroke of half-time.
But Colts got back into the game 10 minutes after the restart as Aberdeen laid the ball into his path of Philip Anderson and he fired home.
Aberdeen then got in on the act himself with 11 minutes remaining after being played in by Ryan Purnell and he rounded substitute goalkeeper Jason Smith, who came on following a collision which resulted in regular number one Mikkail Crockwell being taken off, before tucking the ball away.
But Town had the last laugh when Parsons leapt highest to head home Darrell's corner with the clock running down.
