Rapids result just the tonic

We're all very quick to dish out criticism when we perceive things to be heading in the wrong direction, but right now the national team players and coaching staff deserve the plaudits after beating Colorado Rapids.

I must congratulate coach Keith Tucker who has stuck to his guns, methods and style of play.

Crucially, every player delivered against Rapids and gave a good account of themselves. Against a professional team you can't afford to carry any passengers and that's why we achieved the result.

Having said that, I didn't think Rapids were the best MLS team to have visited Bermuda.

The Revs may have come out earlier on in their pre-season preparations but they looked a lot further on than Rapids.

The national team would have learned plenty from those two games against the Revs and that would have stood them in good stead when they played Rapids. They deserve to be congratulated and have silenced their critics at the ideal time with their Wolrd Cup qualifier against Cayman Islands just around the corner.

With that in mind it's a really welcome win and breaks up a bad spell of negative energy that's been around. The players have responded and shown everybody they're not as bad as people have made them out to be.

They should go into the Cayman game full confidence and with the belief they can pull off the result needed.

Football's all about results and a victory can really change the atmosphere in the dressing room. The players will be bubbling and more receptive to their coaches' ideas and will be really motivated for Cayman.

The introduction of the likes of Khano Smith and John Barry Nusum will also give them a major boost.

We're just a few weeks away from the Hogges season and we've purposefully delayed naming the squad while the national team are preparing for Caymans. We know the squad for this season but there's still one situation we're monitoring closely before we release it to the public.

The squad looks a lot stronger for this campaign and we've introduced a few quality players. I think the guys all know that the Hogges is the future and the best platform for them to develop their game, make a name for themselves and get noticed.

Finally, I must congratulate Kyle Lightbourne following PHC's title success at the weekend. It's no coincidence Kyle's team won the league this season. He has implemented the things he learned during his professional career and drummed into his PHC players.

That's why both Kyle and myself are coaching the Hogges. Quite simply we're the best qualified coaches on the Island - that's just our belief. The proof is in the pudding and Kyle's team have delivered.

I'm now looking forward to working with him at the Hogges and hopefully enjoying more success.
