Reggie seems to be a real prospect

I'll definitely be getting myself down to the National Sports Centre tonight to watch Bermuda's match against St. Kitts and Nevis. I'm particularly interesting in taking a closer look at young Reggie Lambe who appears to be a real prospect. To be honest, I knew very little about him before he joined Ipswich Town last summer and I'm sure his game's come on leaps and bounds since he left for the UK.

I went down to watch the national team train earlier this week so to check up on which Hogges players had been attending and I have to say Reggie caught my eye straight away.

For a young player he has a discipline about him and seemed to understand the importance of keeping it simple with two-touch football. As an attacking midfielder, I bet before he signed for Ipswich he felt the need to keep beating his man.

But having spent around eight months playing in the UK his mindset would've totally changed, that's how it was for me. He looked like he was on a par with our best players and that's pretty impressive considering he's only 16.

That maturity would've come from playing day in, day out at a professional UK club.

I gather Omar Shakir will miss both matches because of injury and his absence will be a loss. Omar was terrific for the Hogges last season and has carried on his good form for PHC. Bermuda's probably is not blessed with a huge number of centre-halves capable of playing for the national team, but I'm sure Keith Tucker has players who can come in and cover.

Omar's absence will give someone else a chance to show what he can do and of course there's guys like Kevin Richards who is an excellent defender and a very consistent player.

Although there's a lot of Hogges guys involved tonight there'll be quite a few who aren't, so it will be interesting for me to learn more about some players I don't know so much about.

I think new coach Tucker will learn plenty from these two games. Although we Bermudians love to watch the team win, I think Keith will be particularly interested in the performance so he can assess our strengths and weaknesses. They will allow him to establish just what he's working with.

An impressive display will certainly give him confidence that the team is on the right track and not in need of major work.

I'm confident there'll be a decent crowd at the National Sports Centre because when it comes to the World Cup, Bermudians always turnout to support their team. A big crowd will certainly help motivate the players.

I wish Keith Tucker and his squad all the best.
