Romaine says he will be fit

Bermuda captain Irving Romaine is still feeling the effects of last week’s crushing 241-run World Cup warm-up loss to England in St. Vincent, writes Colin Thompson.

The ever-smiling Romaine, or Jack as his team-mates refer to him, bruised a finger on his right hand attempting to cut off a fierce drive that flew off the bat of England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff into the covers.

After having a knock in the nets and taking part in fielding drills yesterday morning at the Sir Frank Worrell ground located at the University of the West Indies, Romaine had some makeshift padding applied to his hand by team physiotherapist Craig Brown as a precautionary measure ahead of tomorrow’s historic match against 1996 World Cup champions Sri Lanka at Queen’s Park Oval.

Romaine said the injury was “nothing to be concerned about”, and he insisted that he was fully fit to lead his team out against Sri Lanka, who are among the favourites to win the tournament.
