Scoring drought continues

A beleaguered Bermuda Under 23s brought an end to their disappointing Olympic qualifiers with defeat against Puerto Rico.

Kenny Thompson's' young charges finished their campaign with just one point from their three games in the first round qualifiers in Cuba, without scoring a single goal. They made the worst possible start to their clash with Puerto Rico, conceding after just three minutes, before the South Americans scored again in the 54th minute. Head of Delegation Troy Brimmer said the colts were guilty of missing a glut of guilt edge chances: "We weren't pleased with our performance and the players know they can play a lot better," he said.

"We had plenty of possession and enough chances to finish Puerto Rico off, but we just couldn't find the back of the net. It was the same story against the Cayman Islands. We should've have won our last two games but instead we face finishing either third in the group or bottom, depending on the game between Cuba and Cayman. It's been a learning curve for us and there's been positives from our displays, but at the moment the players are down and disappointed."

Bermuda lost their first game to Cuba 6-0, and drew the next 0-0 against the Cayman Islands, ensuring they could not qualify for next summer's Beijing Olympics.
