Sharks achieve 69 personal bests

Outstanding effort: Members of the Sharks Swimming Club, who performed well at a meet in Canada last weekend.

Young swimmers from Sharks Swim Club achieved a staggering 69 personal bests in the Walker Invitational Swim meet in Ontario, Canada.

A team of 16, aged between nine and 14, travelled to St. Catharines last month with the Sharks coming third overall, despite having a smaller representation than many teams in the competition.

Starturn Claudia Camara recorded personal bests in every event and a number of other swimmers achieved personal bests in six out of seven of their races.

The relay events got the Sharks off to a good start with the girls under 10s medley team, including Susanna Armano, Erin Haydon, Claudia Camara and Kiante Lightbourne coming first.

The girls under 11/12 medley relay team of Jazmine Outerbridge, Erica Balcombe, Michelle Caza and Shana Murphy came second, while the under 13/14 medley relay team of Claire Hawley, Rachel Petty, Michelle Caza and Brooke Desilva finished third.

Although the Sharks were not able to enter a boys relay team they contributed greatly on an individual basis with Nick Patterson, Philip Hagen and Craig Morrison amassing six first place finishes and six second place finishes.

The youngest swimmers Erica Hawley and Kianya Lightbourne, aged nine, swam in the free relays and were two of the swimmers who swam six out of seven personal best times.
