Sims shoots 69 to finish in 34th

Bermuda touring pro Michael Sims posted one of his best finishes of the season on the Nationwide Tour yesterday, completing the Chattanooga Classic in Tennessee in a tie for 34th.

Entering the last day in 52nd place, Sims soared up the leaderboard with a final round of three-under-par 69 at the 7,204-yard, par-72 Black Creek Club.

And it could have been even better but for two late bogeys.

After the front nine, the young Bermudian was three-under after successive birdies at holes six, seven and eight, and then added another at 14. But he then bogeyed 16 and 17 before finishing on a high with his fifth birdie of the day at the 18th.

Sims had recorded rounds of 71, 69 and 71 to finish with a total of 280.

He entered the tournament placed 120th on the Tour money list but will almost certainly move up following yesterday’s fine showing.
