Sluggo grabs the limelight in BBC sporting highlights show

Memorable moment: Dwayne (Sluggo) Leverock in action at the World Cup earlier this year.

Bermuda's big man at this year's Cricket World Cup, Dwayne (Sluggo) Leverock, continues to make sporting headlines.

A huge hit with both overseas journalists and fans after snapping two key wickets in the warm-up match against England and then continuing to impress during the Island team's three World Cup games in Trinidad, the less-than-lithe spin bowler featured prominently during last night's annual BBC Sportsmen of the Year Awards. The annual television spectacular takes a look back at great sporting moments of the year and is watched by millions of viewers throughout Great Britain.

But predictably commentators, while admiring his athleticism, couldn't resist poking fun at cricket's heavyweight champ.

After showing footage of the brilliant diving catch by Sluggo to dismiss Indian opener Robin Uthappa off the first ball of 17-year-old Malachi Jones' first-ever World Cup over, former England football star Gary Lineker, now a BBC presenter, told the audience: "I think that's the first batsman to be caught at first, second and third slip."
