Smith competes in World Masters

Veteran swimmer Christopher Smith will be competing at the Masters World Championships in Perth, Australia which get underway on Thursday.

The 76-year-old Bermudian, who often trains in Toronto and holds a number of Canadian age-group records, will be a member of a 30-strong Ontario team. He'll be competing in the longer distance free events, individual medley races, the 200 metres butterfly as well as a number of relays.

Competition in the 75-79 age group is expected to be strong with a number of swimmers from the host country, Japan, the USA as well as Europe. Smith's favourite event will be the three kilometres open water swim. He has not placed lower than third at a world competition in an open water contest for several years.
