Stout wins major at Queens

Bermudian James Stout, 23, has claimed his second major rackets title, winning the Lacoste British Open singles championships in front of a packed gallery at Queens Club, London.

Second seed Stout defeated fifth seed Alex Titchener-Barrett 4-1.

Titchener-Barrett had beaten number one seed Harry Foster 4-3 in the semi-finals, handing Foster his first singles defeat since becoming World Rackets Champion in 2005.

Stout defeated third seed and current British professional singles champion Mark Hubbard 4-0 in the semi-finals on Friday.

It was Stout's first appearance at Queens Club since winning the Foster Cup while a student at Cheltenham College in 2002.

Stout's latest victory, together with the US Open singles and doubles' titles he won in Philadelphia three weeks' ago, and the US Professional singles title he retained in Boston in December 2007, establishes him as one of the top rackets players in the world.

Stout is based at the Racquet & Tennis Club of New York.
