Teachers raise $5,000 for hospital's neo natal unit

Teachers Rugby Football Club (TRFC) has donated $5,000 to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital as part of its ongoing effort to help youth and families on the Island.

The funds were used by the ward to purchase state of the art infant resuscitation equipment and comfortable furniture for the neo natal unit.

TRFC Secretary Chris Way said: “As a local club we are committed to helping local organisations and as our members have had about 20 babies over the past two years, it is fair to say the Maternity Ward is close to many of our hearts. We all appreciate the wonderful job that they do there and wanted to show our thanks.”

Maternal/Child programme manager Roxanne Kipps-Jackson added:“We thank the rugby team for their generous donation of $5,000, which was used to purchase a comfortable, custom-made, hospital grade recliner/rocking chair.

Parents often spend months in our neonatal unit monitoring the progress of premature infants. This chair will help ease their time with us. Both parents and staff use the chair to feed and cuddle infants who need special assistance in our unit.

In addition, a neopuff was purchased with the funds. This is the latest in resuscitation equipment for infants. It is portable and can be used in our unit, as well as in the operating theatre.

“The rugby team’s generous donation is well appreciated by patients, staff and members of the community who may one day have need for these items.”
