Teenaged sailors to compete in Uruguay
Two of Bermuda’s junior sailors from the Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club will depart from Bermuda to participate in the 2007 Snipe South American Championships in Punta del Este, Uruguay.
Catalina Sposato and Lance Fraser, both 14, will be travelling with their coach, Luis Chiapparro, head sailing coach at the Dinghy Club, to participate in this prestigious international event which starts on Saturday and runs through to April 8.
Catalina sailed last year in the Women’s World Snipe Championships in Uruguay last November where she and her skipper came in fifth overall.
She is hoping that her experience then will provide some advantages to the team as they embark on their international campaign in Snipes.
After the South Americans, the two youngsters will return to Bermuda in time to participate in the 2007 North American Championships which are being hosted in Bermuda in late April by the Spanish Point Boat Club in conjunction with Race Week.
