Ten-man Revolution salvaged vital point
New York Red Bulls 1
New England Revolution 1
Khano Smith's New England Revolution battled back from a goal down to earn a point at Giants Stadium on Saturday.
A spectacular free kick by Jeff Larentowicz pulled Revs level on 56 minutes.
Bulls broke the deadlock on 30 minutes courtesy of some brilliant individual work by Jozy Altidore, who notched his first goal of the season.
The 18-year-old forward received a pass from Claudio Reyna and drove straight through the heart of the Revolution backline, splitting a pair of defenders before blasting a right-footed shot just under the crossbar.
The game took a dramatic turn just after the half time break as Revs were reduced to 10 men after midfielder Mauricio Castro was shown a straight red card following an altercation with New York defender Kevin Goldthwaite on 46 minutes. Goldthwaite received a yellow card.
Despite playing with a man down, the Revs levelled the score in the 56th minute with a perfectly placed free kick by Larentowicz.
Revs play FC Dallas at Pizza Hut Park on Thursday.
