Thomas to head BCB's selection committee

Lionel Thomas

Former star all-rounder Lionel Thomas has been appointed chairman of Bermuda Cricket Board's (BCB) selection committee.

Thomas, who has represented the Leeward Islands in the former Shell Shield Tournament in the West Indies and also Bermuda at the 1979 and 1982 ICC Trophy in England, succeeded Arnold Manders who stood down as chairman of selectors due to his appointment as the BCB's cricket development director.

Thomas has served on the selection committee for several years and accompanied the senior national team on a tour of Denmark, Netherlands and Ireland last August in the capacity of team manager.

Meanwhile, Thomas' former Devonshire Recreation Club team-mate Winston (Coe) Trott has now been appointed to the BCB's selection committee that also consists of another former Devonshire star, Albert Steede, and national coach Gus Logie.

Reggie Pearman, president of the BCB, yesterday congratulated Thomas on his new appointment and welcomed Trott on board.

"I would like to welcome Mr. Trott to the committee and congratulate Mr.Thomas on his appointment of chairman," Pearman said. "Mr.Thomas has served on the committee since 2001 and I am pleased he has accepted this new responsibility."

Former fast bowler Trott, who claimed 23 ICC Trophy scalps between 1979 and 1982, has also assisted at the senior national level in the past and is a close friend of Hall of Fame cricketer Lloyd James.

"Mr.Trott comes to the position with a wealth of experience," Pearman added. "And I am confident he will do an excellent job."
