Title destiny is in PHC's own hands

With the last weekend of fixtures slated for tomorrow, it is anyone's guess who will ride lady luck to the title and out of relegation.

PHC, who hold onto the top spot in the league by three points, play Devonshire Cougars at Southampton Oval, with North Village, who are hot on their heels, squaring off against Ireland Rangers at Malabar.

The equation is simple. PHC need only a point to lift the title.

A Zebras loss coupled with a North Village victory, will have the title decided on goal difference with Zebras on plus 18 while North Village are on plus 13.

This means Village will have to win by at least four goals.

Yet Rams skipper Ralph Bean Jr. knows the ball is still in PHC's court.

"Zebras are still in the driver's seat as they are three points clear", said Bean. "We will do our best to take advantage of any slip-ups that may occur.

"We know Cougars will not lay down against PHC so hopefully we can make in-roads into their lead on the last day. But we are optimistic."

Bean also stated that Ireland Rangers would be no walk in the park when they clash.

"Rangers will be no easy task when we meet them tomorrow so it will be interesting to see what transpires", continued Bean. "They are on some good form as of late so it will be interesting to see what happens.

"But we will do what we have to do and take it from there."

The relegation battle will come to an end tomorrow as three teams can still mathematically take the plunge.

Ireland Rangers need a miracle to stay up.

With their goal difference far worse than those in the battle with them, they will need to beat North Village by a multitude of goals and hope that Devonshire Colts and Somerset Trojans have off days, and lose by large margins.

Somerset, who play Dandy Town, know that they have not done the job just yet, after their victory over Devonshire Colts last weekend.

Trojans skipper Jelani Scott made his feelings felt after their crucial victory last weekend.

"This was just what we needed to ease our relegation fears", Scott said earlier in the week.

"We knew what we had to do against Colts, and we did the job. It's a relief to win, but it is not over just yet.

"We play Dandy Town next and a letdown there will send us down."

Devonshire Colts, who are one point out of the two relegation slots, face off against Boulevard knowing a loss coupled with a Trojans win will see them go back down to the First Division next season.

All players know what must be done this weekend for their respective clubs, whether in the title chase or the relegation battle.

Let the nail-biting and hair pulling begin.
