Trio invited to attend Academy

National women's team cricketers in training before their recent trip to South Africa for the World Cup. Three members of the squad will now attend the ICC Americas Academy in Trinidad.

Bermuda's women national team cricketers Stacy Babb, Rickelle Smith and Shuntae Todd will be attending the ICC Americas 2008 Academy and Training Camp in Trinidad and Tobago, the Bermuda Cricket Board (BCB) announced yesterday.

Reuna Richardson was originally chosen to attend the academy but due to school commitments she will be unable to take part with promising all-rounder Todd taking her place.

The Academy will take place at the Sir Frank Worrell Development Centre in Trinidad from May 18 to May 29.

The programme will be run by Ann Browne-John, ICC Women's Committee representative who is a former West Indies captain and Level Two WICB coach. She'll be assisted by former international players and qualified coach Stephanie Power and Jasmine Sammy.

The players will undergo 10 days of intense training and education and will also be trying out for the WICB Under-19 Tournament.

"I was really excited to hear that I was selected to attend the academy and training camp", said Smith. "Having the chance to play with other players from more experienced teams really pushes me to perform better.

"This is a great opportunity for me to develop and focus on my game and I am looking forward to the experience."

Babb said she was also thankful for the chance to gain experience and knowledge from others around the world.

"To train at the academy is a great opportunity for me to learn more about cricket,", said Babb. "I will get more one-on-one batting, fielding and bowling instruction to improve my technique.

"I look forward to being able to bring back some of the skills I will learn to the national team and to the young girls in the national development squad."

The BCB have also announced that national women's team manager Cinda Bobb has been invited to the ICC Americas 2008 Academy and Training Camp as the Americas Region team manager.

Whilst at the academy, Bobb will assess the girls who are on trial for the Americas women's team who will compete in the WICB Under-19 Tournament.
