'We all applauded Sven's pre-match team talk'
My head is still in the clouds after playing in the Professional Football Association's (PFA) Match of the Century.
I have to say it was one of the best experiences of my footballing life.
I looked around the World XI dressing room before the game and almost had to pinch myself. Sven-Goran Eriksson was giving a team talk, while Gianfranco Zola, Roberto Di Matteo, Ian Rush and Mark Hughes were all sitting around me. I thought to myself 'it doesn't get much better than this'.
From start to finish it was four days of pure pleasure. We even trained at the City of Manchester Stadium, which was fantastic with the drills based on the same sessions put on by the likes of Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho.
As for the match itself it was a dream and even though most of the guys were in their late 30s or early 40s their touch and awareness was different class. I told Zola before the game we would all see just how good he was if he could still manage to pick me out with a pass as I hadn't done a whole lot of running for quite some time! Unfortunately for me he did picked me out with a perfect cross from three yards out from goal ... which I somehow managed to miss!
I still can't believe I missed my opportunity to make a permanent mark in such a historic game. It was one of those chances when you're already waiting for your team-mates to celebrate with before you've actually scored!
The ball seemed to skim off my head and went wide, but it still didn't take the smile off my face.
Sven's pre-match team talk wasn't bad either and actually received an applause from all the players. He told us we'd been the best on the field during our day and he wasn't about to tell us how to play the game, just to make sure we scored one more goal than them. Mark Hughes turned to us all and said he didn't reckon his Blackburn Rovers' players would be applauding one of his team talks any time soon! It just shows how much respect players have for Sven.
The England XI was an impressive line-up as well with Alan Shearer, Les Ferdinand, Graeme Le Saux and Dennis Wise. Wisey was still superb and ran the show for them in midfield, scoring a great goal, but thankfully we still ran out winners.
The only disappointment, if there was one, was the turnout that was around 13,000. I honestly thought they would get at least 20,000 considering the players involved. But it was a rainy day and City had just played Wigan earlier so I suppose that had a bearing on attendance.
I went to watch City at the JJB Stadium and got a ride in Terry Venables' Rolls Royce. It was pretty plush and I told him with my young family it would probably be covered with sweet wrappers and all sorts of rubbish if it were mine. It was great to get a chance to have a really good football chat with a man of Venables' stature.
Finally, I would like to wish new Bermuda coach Keith Tucker all the best ahead of the 2010 World Cup campaign. I would also like to encourage any Hogges players who have not yet committed to the national programme to do so - it's only right. The national team will take priority if any fixtures clash with Hogges games and it's important all the players make themselves available.
