West misses the cut

Local golf pro Eric West bowed out of the $180,000 Colombia Masters after failing to make the cut in Bogota, Colombia yesterday.

The Bermudian pro carded a four-over-par 75 in a bogey-riddled round which included a double bogey at the par four, 17th.

He also had two birdies.

Playing in wet conditions, West struggled with the putter on greens he later described as being two-paced.

"The greens were difficult today but for different reasons . . . it was raining all morning and the greens were not draining properly so some greens were really fast and others were really slow," he lamented.

After carding a three-over 74 the day before, West was in dire need of a lower round yesterday but was again undermined by some woeful putting.

"I didn't help the cause by leaving myself multiple 50-foot putts which, in those conditions, one is lucky to get away with a two putt," he said.

West arrived in Colombia earlier this week riding high following a string of top three finishes on the Moonlightgolf.com Tour but will now have to go back to the drawing board after a disappointing showing on his Tour de las Americas debut.

"Although I missed the cut and my scores were not great, I don't think I played that poorly," he reasoned. "I still think my game is on track but the course this week, with all the altitude changes, I just needed more preparation than the one-and-a-half practice rounds I had."
