Wetherhill resigns as Cricket Board secretary

Marc Wetherhill has resigned as secretary of Bermuda Cricket Board (BCB), The Royal Gazette can reveal.

The PartnerRe corporate lawyer had served on the Board for the past four years.

Wetherhill was voted in as assistant secretary at the Board's 2003 AGM before succeeding Charlotte Simons as secretary two years later. "Marc has made an invaluable and telling contribution to the BCB during his four years as an executive officer of the Board," BCB president Reggie Pearman commented in a written statement.

"He has been instrumental in leading the Board through its evolution from a small organisation to the model that we see today that can demonstrate best management and governance practices. His advice and support have been sterling and consistent during a period of great change and hard work.

"Marc has worked tirelessly and unselfishly to help the Board achieve its goals and consistently served the game at the national level. He is a man of great integrity and honour and his contribution will be sorely missed.

"I take this opportunity to thank - not just Marc - but also his young family for the sacrifices they have made for the sport of cricket and for the manner in which he consistently represented the spirit of cricket."

Having made a tremendous sacrifice in the best interest of the sport, Wetherhill admitted the decision to resign was indeed a difficult one to make.

"I would be telling a lie if I was to say it was an easy decision to make, which it wasn't," he told The Royal Gazette.

"It was an extremely difficult decision to make but I think sometimes you have to take a step back and assess what sort of impact you can make doing something like this.

"I did what I was doing in the best interest of cricket and was prepared to sacrifice my time doing that. It was a labour of love and I enjoyed being secretary of the Bermuda Cricket Board and have the utmost faith in and respect for each member of the executive committee."

Wetherhill described BCB president Pearman as a man of integrity.

"Reggie is someone I trust and also someone I very much enjoyed serving as assistant secretary and then secretary ," he added.

"But the most important thing to me was that the Board be left in safe hands - and it is.

"With Reggie Pearman back at the helm I know that I haven't left a sinking ship."
