Wolves set sights on PHC

PHC Zebras are the only obstacle standing between Wolves and a first FA Cup final appearance in 11 years.

Division One side Wolves dumped FA Cup holders Devonshire Colts out of the prestigious competition last weekend and will now look to continue their giant-slaying act against a Zebras team vying for their first triple crown (Premier Division, Friendship Trophy and FA Cup) in 37 years in next month's semis.

Wolves manager Robert Thomas admitted yesterday that he would have prefered to have avoided Zebras altogether but nevertheless remains cautiously optimistic his team can see off the threat and become the second Division One team in succession to advance in the final behind Colts.

"I thought we could've got a better draw. The other two teams (Dandy Town and Boulevard) have been hot and cold and so I would've fancied our chances better against them because Zebras are pretty much steady. I think it's safe to say everybody probably wanted to avoid them," Thomas said.

Zebras are presently bidding for an unprecedented tenth FA Cup win and possess one of the proudest cup winning traditions on the Island. But Thomas said his team do not fear the men in black who he feels the pressure will be on to win.

"They have put pressure on themselves because they want all the silverware," he said. "We don't have any presssure on us and don't fear Zebras.

"At this stage of the competiton there's no free ride and so we will have to deal with them. There's no easy games from this point on and it's all going to boil down to who wants it the most on the day.

"But we can talk about the match all day long but that's not going to win it for us because we have to put it all together on the field on the day. So our plan is to just go out there and take things in our stride."

Wolves are almost certain to call on the valued services of college kid Jason Davis while Bermuda Hogges player Jared Peniston could also be back from injury.

Peniston injured his knee last December against St.David's and has been sidelined since. But when asked whether not the senior national team player could be back in time for next month's cup clash with Zebras, Thomas held his cards close to his chest.

"We don't want to give out any information that is going to fuel the enemy," he smiled. "But anything is possible and we will just have to wait and see what happens."

Wolves last appeared in the FA Cup final under the stewardship of former coach Dennis Brown during the 1996-97 season as a representative of the then Second Division, losing 3-2 to Boulevard in extra time.
