Netherlands 281 for eight

Bermuda 85 all out

Following the ignominy of being bowled out for 13 runs against hosts South Africa the day before, Bermuda women's team responded with a pride-restoring performance against the Netherlands yesterday.

It seemed the tongue-lashing from coach Allan Douglas did the trick with Bermuda at least managing 85 runs with Mary-Ellen Jackson notching 26, in reply to Netherlands' huge total of 281.

However, a major contributor to that total was extras as Bermuda's bowlers struggled to find the strip, conceding a mind-boggling 81 wides.

The extras column provided the Netherlands with their biggest score of 94.

Bermuda captain Linda Mienzer delivered 21 wides in her seven overs, Terry-Lynn Paynter 15.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Netherlands captain Helmien Rambaldo amassed 59 and was well supported by Pauline te Beest (22), while Jackson also starred with the ball for Bermuda taking three wickets for 46.

Chasing, Bermuda were reduced to 54 for six, with skipper Mienzer following her 48-ball one against South Africa with a 20-ball duck.

Annemarie Tanke picked up three for 18 with her legbreaks as Netherlands dismissed Bermuda in the 37th over to record a comfortable win.

Elsewhere, Ireland got their campaign back on track with a convincing nine-wicket win over Scotland to set up a make-or-break match against Zimbabwe tomorrow.

Pakistan needed just 13 overs to knock off the 59 runs needed to beat Zimbabwe and notch a comprehensive nine-wicket win. South Africa hammered Papua New Guinea by 270 runs as Papua New Guinea were bowled out for just 28.
