@$:@bylinerg:<*p(0,0,0,+1,0,10.08,g)>ByColin Thompson in Dublin, Ireland@bodyindent:<*t(0,0," ")>Bermuda's battle weary senior national cricket squad are set to receive a welcome shot in the arm in the form of reinforcements Malachi Jones, Rodney Trott and Stefan Kelly who are scheduled to arrive in Dublin, Ireland just in time for the Island's second Intercontinental Cup clash that starts tomorrow at the Clontarf Cricket Club.<*p(0,12,0,10.7,0,0,g)><*t(0,0," ")>The trio, all members of Bermuda's victorious Under-19 national squad that qualified for next year's Under-19 World Cup in Malaysia in Ontario last week, represent a beacon of hope for Irving Romaine's squad that has fallen on tough times since embarking on their tour of Europe earlier this month.<*t(0,0," ")>"I think they will bring a new spirit and all of the excitement of qualifying (for the World Cup) along with them and also have a hunger to succeed that hopefully will filter through the rest of the team," said an optimistic Romaine, during the short flight from London's Gatwick Airport to Dublin.<*p(0,12,0,10.5,0,0,g)><*t(0,0," ")>Jones and Kelly will undoubtedly ease some of the strain off the shoulders of George O'Brien Jr. and Ryan Steede and provide Bermuda with two more attacking options with the new ball, while Trott could possibly find himself sharing the bulk of spin bowling duties along with the likes of Dwayne Leverock and Romaine in Ireland.<*t(0,0," ")>And the trio's arrival could not have been more timely as Bermuda are about to take on a formidable Ireland team that turned the cricket world on its head earlier this year during the World Cup by defeating former world champions Pakistan to ignite a tragic sequence of events.<*t(0,0," ")>Ireland, now coached by former Trinidad and West Indies batsman Phil Simmons, are also the current Intercontinental Cup holders having trounced the competition's inaugural finalists Canada in the final last May in England.<*t(0,0," ")>"They are certainly on top of their game and done extremely well in the World Cup and have managed to stick together," Romaine acknowledged. "They are playing some good cricket at the moment and are on a high and are obviously looking to do well against us.<*t(0,0," ")>"They are in it to win it, that's how they play. And so we just have to go there and battle with them."<*t(0,0," ")>Ireland have won the previous two encounters between the two countries and should again prove a stiff test for the visitors, who qualified for this year's World Cup here in Ireland in 2005.<*t(0,0," ")>"This is where it all began, fellows," commented one team member as he exited the British Airways flight.<*t(0,0," ")>But much has changed since that memorable July afternoon, with the senior national squad having undergone a major facelift brought on by the retirement of senior members and unavailability of others to travel for various reasons.<*t(0,0," ")>"People in Holland were asking for the likes of Dean (Minors), Clay (Smith) and Hurdle (Kevin). But we know what we are up <*L*p(0,0,0,10.5,0,0,g)><*t(0,0," ")>against and so there will be no surprises," Romaine added.<*p(0,12,0,10.5,0,0,g)><*t(0,0," ")>"To be quite honest I think we have the element of surprise on our side because they do not know all of the players that we are bringing over."<*t(0,0," ")>Bermuda's touring entourage arrived in Dublin early yesterday evening in reasonably good spirits despite having not savored the sweet taste of victory on tour thus far.<*t(0,0," ")>The Islanders are fresh off successive thrashings at the hands of the Dutch in Holland in both forms of the game, and in desperate need of an inspiring performance if they are to salvage any semblance of success before returning home early next week.<*t(0,0," ")>"If you would've asked me a few weeks before we left I would've told you it was gong to be a difficult tour as preparations were certainly not what they should've been, while we have a few players here who have found things very difficult at this level," said coach Gus Logie, who will be reunited with fellow countryman Simmons.<*t(0,0," ")>"We've seen some players try, but unfortunately the level over here is above their capability at the moment."<*t(0,0," ")>Yet with a little more application and discipline the former West Indies coach remains optimistic the tourists can still steal a bit of thunder before the tour concludes.<*t(0,0," ")>"I still feel things could be better, but we are still making the same mistakes that we have seen before," he noted.<*t(0,0," ")>"But I think it's good to have the youngsters coming over full of confidence having achieved success with the Under-19s in Canada."<*t(0,0," ")>All-rounder Jacobi Robinson and opening batsman Dwight Basden have both returned home, as well as England-based off spinner Chris Lonsdale who made his Bermuda debut against the Dutch in Rotterdam last Monday.<*t(0,0," ")>Back-up wicketkeeper Roderick Masters was originally scheduled to tour Denmark and Holland, but has agreed to stay on for the Ireland leg as well.<*t(0,0," ")>Bermuda begin their four-day Intercontinental Cup match with Ireland tomorrow at the Clontarf CC that has hosted international cricket for over 75 years, including the 1999 World Cup match between West Indies and Bangladesh.
