Bacardi Bats were the toast of the Commercial Softball League on Wednesday when they posted only their second win of the season in an upset over
With the score deadlocked at 15-15 going into the bottom of the seventh, Bacardi's Rudy Yearwood led off the inning with a base hit, his third of the game. He then scored from first after Eloy Castroverde smashed a double enabling Bats (2-14) to finish the season on a high note.
The victory now puts extra pressure on Division D Docksiders, who now find themselves with the league's poorest mark at 1-13, and were in action last night against Gray & Kempe.
Bacardi's other hitting star was Mike Strohopfer, who was three-for-three with two runs batted in. Ianthia Butler was the winning pitcher, while mound opponent Valerie Symons endured the heart-breaking loss.
Three hits by Breezers' Brandon Robinson, including two round-trippers, and two more from Alan Bean could not slam the door on Bacardi.
The two other games went pretty much to form with PALMS pulverising Sousa's Lawncare & Design 23-8, behind the plate perfection of Clarkie Trott who was five-for-five with a tape-measure home run. Trott was a one-man wrecking crew, driving in six runs. Winning pitcher Charles Williams-Grant drove in three runs himself with three hits and limited Sousa batsmen to a paltry six hits.
Stanley Greenslade, with two hits, was the only batter for Sousa who was able to muster more than one hit.
Andrew Peniston was also part of PALMS' gleaming cast of hitting stars when he sprayed three base hits in four plate appearances. Shellshocked Alan DeSilva was the losing pitcher.
Nisala Weerasoriya hurled a masterpiece for Marsh & McLennan, allowing only three runs in a 10-3 victory over International Risk. Weerasoriya connected for three hits himself, not limiting himself to pitching mastery alone.
But it was Steve Outerbridge's three hits, including a home run and four RBI that did the trick for M&M. Philippe Bacon and Steve Western, with two hits apiece, were the only bright lights on a bleak night for International Risk.
Ken MacDonald suffered the pitching loss.

BASKETBALL BAS Play-off action began this week in the Bermuda Basketball Association's Winter League.
In opening round action, Harold Davidson's three-point field goal with four seconds remaining enabled Dream Team to defeat upset-minded Nationals 39-38.
Nationals appeared to be in control, but missed five free-throws in the final two minutes to provide Dream Team with opportunity for victory.
In the other game, heavily-favoured Rebels overcame a slow start to upend the Bank of Bermuda 72-56.
In a losers bracket game the following day, Nationals staved off elimination by ousting Bank of Bermuda 51-43. Nationals were paced by the outside shooting of Mark Bell, who dominated with 23 points including five three-pointers. The Bank of Bermuda was led by Simon Onabowale's 16 points while Al Petterson and Ken Dill chipped in with 11 and 10 points respectively.
In the winner's bracket game, Rebels advanced to finals with an easy 63-48 victory over Dream Team. Mike Robinson and Ijumo Hayward each had 19 points for Rebels while Harold Davidson and Glen Douglas led Dream Team with 16 and 13 points respectively.

MOTOCROSS SCR The final Pepsi Motocross National on Sunday promises to be interesting as the curtain closes on another successful season.
In the 80cc class, Chris Maxwell needs to win all three races if he is to hold on to his division lead over Remo Simons and Michael Burgess.
Devon Moss was crowned king of the 125C class and will not feel much heat from Evan Lambert or Kyle Constable.
But anything can happen in the 125B class where Aaron Pace clings to a slim 32-point lead over Justin Belboda. With Gary Simons only four points behind Belboda, the last races of the season prove to be crucial.
Another category locked up is in the 250C class, but that will not stop champion Donnie Moss from trying to increase his lead over Kevin Watson.
In the 250B class, Robert Smith has watched his lock on the division lead slip away with Edison Jones now only 12 points behind. Jones, who has been racing well in recent weeks, threatens to lower the boom on Sunday in his bid to unseat the champion.
BOWLING BOW With six weeks left in the Mott's Sportsmen's League, Sparks continued to hold on to their first-place lead with a 23-4 victory over Young Blood.
Second-placed Buy & Sell were pulverised by fifth-placed Mini Forwarders 23-4 in last week's other one-sided score.
Warwick Reds rolled a team high series of 2,713 as they doubled Social Club 18-9.
Pembroke Juniors, with help from Antoine Jones' individual high series of 601, defeated Warwick Whites 16-11. Pembroke had best team high game of 938.
Leon Smith of Warwick Reds posted the second-best individual series with a 593 score, followed by Hank Rawlins of Sparks who rolled a 582.

In Mixed Majors Bowling League action, E&C Well Drilling -- with team high series of 2,046 -- defeated D&D Rollers 3-1, Untouchables beat Dolphins 3-1 and Mix-Ups bounced B's & G's 3-1.
Strikers and Last Minutes tied 2-2 while Troublemakers and Dynamic Four were also even at 2-2.
Kevin Minors of Dolphins enjoyed top series score for Men with 558 followed by Reggie Saunders of B's & G's with 547 and Wayne Kelly of D&D Rollers who rolled a 534.
Despite their defeat, Dolphins also had best individual game when Richard Grant rolled a 211 in the losing cause. Troublemakers' Michael Glasgow was second with 208 followed by Kevin Minors and Vernon Daniels of Dolphins who scored 202.
Kathy Christopher led all women in high series with a 587, with Joan Burgess of E&C Well Drilling scoring a 568 to lock up second place. Lynn Gilbert was third with 559.
Maryann Wilson's best high game of 223 was not enough to help B's & G's. Kathy Christopher had second highest game when she rolled 216 for Dynamic Four. Lynn Gilbert of Mix-Ups was third with 206.
