Bermuda drop opener
to league champions Maple Hill on Saturday.
Bermuda, with Clevie Wade and Noel Gibbons the pick of the bowlers, dismissed Maple Hill for 196 off 48 overs and then replied with 176 in 47.3 overs.
Ricky Hill and Dennis Archer put on 51 for the first wicket with Hill leading the batting with 40 and Archer scoring 18. Bermuda then lost number three batsman Andre Manders without scoring as both he and Hill departed when the score was 81, before Arnold Manders steadied things in the middle order with 36.
There were five lbws and three run-outs in the Bermuda innings as they fell just short of their target. "I thought the guys played extremely well,'' said tour manager Clarence Tucker last night.
"We should have beaten them by at least four wickets. The team we played, I understand just won the league while Police, who we play on Tuesday, won the limited-overs competition.'' The Bermuda squad had a net session yesterday morning before going to Kensington Oval in the afternoon to watch the Red Stripe match between Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago.
Saturday's team: Ricky Hill, Dennis Archer, Andre Manders, Arnold Manders, Albert Steede (capt), Noel Gibbons, Clevie Wade, Allan Douglas, Gary Brangman, Kenny Phillips and Anthony Edwards.
