Bermudians sign up for biennial marion
Yacht Race, which starts in Massachusetts on June 18.
Liaison officer John Carey yesterday said that 118 entries have been received by the race committee, including regular Kirk Cooper and Alphida .
The other local yachts set for the race are Dillightfull (Nicholas Dill); Lullabye (David Roblin); Starr Trail (Robert Mulderig); Tonka (Paul Hubbard); Tsunami (Buddy Rego); and Vivace (Colin Couper).
Two years ago 117 started the race off Beverley Yacht Club and Carey said that it is unlikely the 1989 record (163) will be matched.
"The storm has affected the people in New England,'' said Carey of the blizzard that swept through the eastern seaboard a few weeks ago, "and I think the state of the economy would have made a record entry unlikely as well.'' A symposium will be held this weekend at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Mass., for first-time entrants and those who wish a refresher's course to brush up on various aspects of the race.
