Billy Bee Trucking Challenge Cup semi-final against Old Colony Club on Tuesday
The Centre-OCC clash was worthy of any final as first Corey Berkeley beat Mike Lindo 22-20, 22-20 to give his team a 1-0 lead and then OCC won the next three matches to go ahead 3-1.
But the Centre stormed back with Berkeley clinching a stunning 18-21, 21-17, 24-22 victory over Bermuda's number one Nick Frost.
OCC eventually went ahead 5-4 before Berkeley beat Dave Waltham 21-19, 21-15 to tie the series at 5-5.
Roderick Masters and the Centre were then on the brink of defeat as Mike Lindo led the decider 7-21, 21-17, 20-15 in the last game of the night. But in a do-or-die position Masters attacked ferociously and didn't miss until the last game was tied 20-20. He went on to win 23-21 to give the Centre a 6-5 victory with the match ending on the stroke of midnight.
BPSA defeated a two-man Prison Officers team 6-2 in the other semi-final as Officers defaulted three matches. Myron Piper and Rawle Frederick beat Cal Butterfield and Barry Rahman 21-18, 23-21 in doubles while Piper beat Butterfield 21-17, 21-8 and Frederick stopped Rahman 15-21, 21-17, 21-13.
Rahman beat Dapo Freferick 16-21, 21-12, 21-16 and Butterfield defeated Frederick 22-20, 21-26 for Prison Officers' two wins.
JUNIOR GOLF GLF Blustery winds held no fear for a team of 11-year-olds playing in their first captain's choice tournament as part of the junior golf Easter programme last weekend.
Captain Michael Watts guided team-mates Andrew Osborne, Shane Kelly and Jordan Knight to an impressive four-under-par 32 over nine holes to win by two shots.
Second place went to Jamie McMillan, Daniel Ezekiel, Ebonie Burgess and Daniel Augustus who carded 34.
Among the 15-and-over group, Chris Smith and his team of Laura Robinson, Mark Tatem and Darius Gordyk fired a seven-under-par 63 over 18 holes to take top spot. Their score included an eagle at the 469 yard, par-five tenth and six birdies.
Second place on retrogression went to Scot Roy, Jermain Simons, Nick Noviello and Trevor Mills, who reeled off five birdies on the back nine in their 63 total.
Tomorrow all juniors are asked to attend a rules seminar at Ocean View. Groups One and Two A should report at 1.00 p.m., and Groups Two B and Three at 2.30 p.m.
JUNIOR SOCCER SOC The venue for tomorrow's Under-13 Cup quarter-finals between PHC Blacks and BAA (10.15 a.m.) and Paget and North Village (11.30 a.m.) has been changed from Stonington Field to BAA Field.
The other quarter-finals will be played at Shelly Bay Field II. They feature league champions Devonshire Colts against Dandy Town at 10.15 a.m. followed by St. George's against Hotels at 11.30 a.m.
The championship deciding Under-19 League make-up match between Dandy Town and St. George's will now be played on Thursday, March 18 at Devonshire Recreation Club (7.00 p.m.) as the first part of a double-header featuring First Division clubs Devonshire Cougars and Hamilton Parish.
RUGBY RUG An end-to-end rugby ball-run will take place this Sunday, starting at 7.30 a.m.
The ball, sponsored by DHL, will be passed like a relay baton between 18 youth players at various stations from St. George's Square to Dockyard and is expected to take just over three hours to complete.
The efforts are part of a fundraising drive to raise $24,000 needed to send the national youth rugby squad on their first tour, to Boston from April 11 to 14. A squad of over 30 players hope to play four games.
