Blazers seek revenge

Boulevard and Dandy Town, two of the Island's hottest sides at the moment, meet at Bernard Park (2.30 p.m.).

Boulevard, winners of six consecutive matches and seven of their last eight -- their lone blemish a 1-0 loss was Town -- will be no doubt looking to avenge last year's 1-0 defeat by Town at the same stage of the competition.

Lionel Cann was the hero of that match as he came off the bench to score a late winner for Town and may once again play a vital role.

Since the Christmas break the Hornets, like Boulevard, have lost just one match with that coming back on January 17, ironically against this Sunday's opponents.

A victory would give Town a chance at redemption for a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to PHC decided by a disputed penalty converted by Kyle Lightbourne.

Meanwhile, the Blazers -- champions in 1991 -- are seeking to reach only their second FA Cup final appearance and it would seem hard for anyone to deny them as they have looked in irrepressible form as of late. This is also indicated by their current second place standing in the league after languishing near the bottom early on.

Wayne (Bigga) Richardson, Boulevard's longest-serving team member, expressed some eagerness for Sunday's match.

"Right now the spirit is high and we're geared up and looking forward to the match,'' said Richardson, who was injured for much of the season, but has recently taken up his usual spot in the heart of the defence. "We're pretty much at full strength and at the end of the day look to come out winners.'' As for his opponents, Richardson expressed that they should provide good competition and that fans were in for quite a match.

Said Richardson: "Dandy Town and Boulevard always provide entertaining and exciting games.

"It's a clash of two ghetto teams that know each other well.'' Richardson and centre-half Leroy Stevens anchor a defence which has been the league's second most stingiest -- 17 goals against -- and during their winning streak have conceded a mere two goals.

Right-back Dean Boyles provides an added bonus as can often be found aiding the attack with tantalising runs along the flank.

Still the man that will likely warrant the most attention from Town's defenders is crafty forward Dwight (Payback) Warren. Warren's close ball skills and darting runs have proven the ultimate undoing of many a defender, and Town's pair, Wylie Rudo and Lloyd Christopher will certainly be on alert to prevent this occurring.

Aside from being the sparkplug in attack, Warren is the team's second leading scorer with five goals for the season. Strike partner Kenny Hill, who has eight goals to his credit, also possesses the opportunistic talents and is a potential match winner.

Sunday represents the fourth meeting of the two sides this season, with the series squared at one win apiece and including one draw.

Dandy Town and Devonshire Colts will replay their Friendship Trophy quarter-final at Somerset next Thursday (9 p.m.). The teams drew 1-1 on Tuesday.

Dandy Town's youngsters meet Devonshire Colts in the semi-final of the Crystal Palace competition at Bernard Park on Sunday (12.30 p.m.).

Tonight's Women's League Cup final between Telecom and Rude Girls has been postponed.
