BPSA still unbeaten
Table Tennis League this week with a 7-4 defeat of reigning champions Old Colony Club.
Spearheaded by fine performances from Alden Ray and Myron Piper, who each won three singles matches before teaming to win the doubles, BPSA ended the night as the only side with a perfect 5-0 record at this stage of the season. They also have a commanding four point lead at the top of the table.
Individually, Piper and Ray each moved to 15-0 for the season based on singles play. But Piper almost surrendered the unbeaten tag as he was forced to come from behind to defeat Bermuda number one Nick Frost 15-21, 21-13, 21-17.
Ray, meanwhile, upset number three Dave Waltham 21-18, 22-24, 21-18 and easily disposed of Frost in straight games.
A bit of the old and a dash of the new carried Eastern Stars to a 10-1 win over Bermuda College, as young Andrew Smith combined with 67-year-old veteran Mansfield (Bojangles) Smith to good effect.
However, both found themselves stretched by the prowess of the College's Mar Sanchez, who had Mansfield down match point before allowing the sexagenarian to pull out a 13-21, 25-23, 21-18 triumph.
