Fisher shines in US 10K

Bermuda's top female distance runner by placing first in her age group (35-40-years) and second overall at the 12th Old Reliable 10K Run in Raleigh, North Carolina recently.

Fisher, taking advantage of winning the 1994-95 FedEx/Continental cross Country Series for which she won a free trip, battled temperatures in the mid 40s with blustery winds to clock 37 minutes, 41 seconds, well off her best road time of 36.20.

She finished less than a minute behind 30-year-old Pam Huskey, who ran 36.55, while Sarah Rhodes was third in 38.25.

The result capped off a fine year, one that has seen the veteran runner establish four new records.

At the Pan American Games in Argentina, Fisher set new Bermuda marks in the 800 and 1500 metres, while she also attained new standards in the 400 metres hurdles and 2,000 metres steeplechase during the Veteran World Championships.

Fisher used the event as preparation for a run at qualifying for next year's Olympics in either the 800 or 1500 metres.
