Goal hungry Village run riot
St. David's goalkeeper Sidney Minors saw red, literally, yesterday as North Village romped to the biggest FA Cup win of the day with Dwight (Payback) Warren and Kevin Jennings both netting hat-tricks at St. David's.
Behind an inexperienced defence missing Del Hollis and Shea Pitcher, Minors was helpless to stop the Village rout.
Warren opened the scoring in the 18th minute when he netted directly from an inswinging corner on the right after Minors failed to slap the ball away at the near post. And by the 28th minute two more goals had gone in and, for all intents and purposes, the tie was over.
Warren hit his second in the 25th minute from close range and, three minutes later, midfielder Michael Hansey helped himself to a goal after charging through the middle.
Already without the injured Neil Robinson, Village lost the experienced Elliott Jennings when he limped off with a hamstring injury in the 35th minute, giving coach Kenny Thompson the chance to come on as sub.
Village added a fourth in the final minute of the half when from another Warren corner on the right, defender Kimandi Binns forced the ball over the line at the far post.
The Premier Division leaders were in no mood to ease up in the second half and just 37 seconds after the restart Minors was picking the ball out of his net again when Kevin Jennings used his speed to pounce on a backpass to the 'keeper. After winning the challenge, he had the simple task of steering the ball into an open goal.
Otis Minors pulled one back for St. David's in the 54th minute after a quick break but Village were back in front by five goals when Warren unselfishly squared the ball back inside the box for Jennings to score his second goal.
A minute later a frustrated Minors was sent off by referee Lyndon Raynor for swearing at a linesman. Four more goals would come after that as St. David's continued to chase shadows.
Substitute Tarik Jennings scored probably the best goal of the game when he kept the ball in play deep on the right and left Michael Simons standing as he sprinted for the penalty box before slotting home to make it 7-1.
Scoring was becoming so easy now that Village, with players all around the box, even had the audacity to try to choose who their next scorer was going to be.
As such they wasted a good chance when Kevin Jennings passed instead of shooting and Warren laid the ball into Kentoine Jennings' path only to see the defender scoop the ball over the top from six yards.
Then Tariq Jennings unselfishly passed to Kevin Jennings, who lined up his shot before shooting into the far corner to complete his hat-trick. Warren wrapped up his own hat-trick six minutes later when substitute Cal (Patches) Dill won a challenge with the 'keeper and then laid the ball back for Warren to score in the 80th minute.
Twice after that in the space of a minute Village hit the post as they sought goal number 10. First Kevin Jennings' shot hit the outside of the upright and then Thompson also hit the framework from a corner.
The 10th goal finally came in the 84th minute when Kentoine Jennings beat Minors with a flick from a short pass inside the box.
St. David's pulled another goal back in the last minute when Kevin Jennings fouled Chae Simmons as he raced for goal on the left side. Simmons took the penalty himself, tucking his spot kick neatly inside Gladwin Edness' right-hand post.
