Goater on target -- but City crash

night, but it failed to prevent Wolves from completing the `double' over the First Division leaders.

Wolves, who beat City 1-0 on the opening day of the league, sent the visitors crashing to their biggest defeat of the season, 4-1. They also became the first team to take maximum points off City who were hit by goals in the sixth and 18th minutes.

All eyes were on City's new striker Robert Taylor, who signed last week from Gillingham for 1.5 million. Taylor hit the woodwork in the 16th minute, just before Wolves doubled their lead.

Top scorer Goater pulled a goal back on the half hour to keep City in the game, using his pace to get into the box where he finished off a good move.

But Michael Branch, on loan from Everton, netted his second goal of the half in the 40th minute to make it 3-1 before Wolves struck again in the 68th to make certain of the points as City lost their second straight match.

The last time City conceded three goals in a league game was against Fulham back in August, 1998.

Huddersfield went one point clear of City at the top of the First Division when they defeated Queens Park Rangers 1-0 on Saturday.
