Horse show puts accent on fun
effort to raise funds for the National Equestrian Centre on Vesey Street.
The two-day show at the Centre on Saturday and Sunday is believed to be the first of its kind for more than 20 years with almost every facet of horse-related sports included.
According to show chairman and chairman of the trustees of the Equestrian Centre, Raymond White, the accent will be on fun, but there's also likely to be a competitive spirit.
Included on the programme are dressage, show jumping and trotting events as well as a number of gymkhana-type fun races.
"The idea is to put some fun back into horse riding,'' said White, "and at the same time we want to rasie funds for the Equestrian Centre to pay of a debt we've incurred.
"We're trying to make it a community event by involving all the businesses in Devonshire, and we've also invited the wife of the Premier (Christine Saul) who lives in Devonshire and local MP John Barritt.
"It's a long time since we've done something like this, and there seems to be a lot of enthusiasm from all those who are taking part.'' Children under 14 will be admitted to the show free while adults will be charged five dollars.
