International skippers pour in
Omega Gold Cup slated to begin on Sunday with the qualifying series involving unseeded skippers.
Robert Fry flew in on Wednesday, while Marcus Weiser, Dawn Riley and Chris Law arrived yesterday. The bulk are expected between now and Sunday.
The most notable of the group is Englishman Law, ranked 16th in the world and having beaten Dennis Conner for the Etchells World Championship in 1991.
He is a four-time member of the British Olympic sailing team and won the 1992 Omega Australia Cup.
New Zealander, Fry will represent Japan where he has been resident the past 20 years. Most recently he was a part of the Nippon Challenge's bid for the America's Cup.
Weiser is regarded as one of Germany's up-and-coming match racers and finished seventh at the 1991 BMW Baltic Match Racing championship.
The only female skipper in this year's regatta, Riley brings a measure of experience having been a pit person aboard the winning boat Americ 3 in the America's Cup and struck gold again at the 1992 Santa Maria Cup match race championships.
Tomorrow will see practice races taking place in Hamilton Harbour. The Albouy's Point Centre is to be erected today behind the Bank of Bermuda on Front Street and will provide concessions for the public.
CHRIS DICKSON -- Top seed.
