Ironman World Triathlon Championships on Saturday.

For Linda Dillon, it marked the second time she had conquered the 140.6 mile course which includes a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile cycle and 26.2 mile marathon run.

Robyn Peck, meanwhile, was competing in Hawaii for the first time although amazingly Saturday's event was her third `Ironman' event in the last year.

Dillon, who first competed in Hawaii back in 1986, placed 14th in the women's 50-54 age division in a time of 16 hours, seven minutes and 30 seconds. She recorded one hour, 35 minutes 13 seconds for the swim, 8:06:48 for the bike and 6:07:32 for the run.

Her performance is hoped to raise some $5,000 for the local charity, PALS.

Peck placed 27th in the 40-44 age division in a time of 13:41.03. Her splits were 1:17:54, 6:44:17 and 5:28:24.

Overall victory went to Canada's Peter Reid who won his second Ironman World Championship in three years, while his wife Lori Bowden finished second in the women's race.

Reid, 33, completed the course in eight hours, 21 minutes, one second, more than two minutes ahead of runner-up Timothy Deboom of Boulder, Colorado.

Some 1,500 competitors took part in the 22nd annual event, held on the Big Island's Kona and Kohala coasts.

Natascha Badmann, 33, of Switzerland was the women's winner and 44th overall finisher, completing the course in 9:26:17.

Reid and Bowden were looking to become the first husband and wife to sweep the gold medals.

Last year, the couple became the first husband-and-wife team to win Ironman Australia. They won the Ironman Canada in August.
